ABOUT US

ABOUT US
We are from Cornwall, England.
We love to travel and to explore places in a campervan. We find
wide open spaces exhilarating
and do lots of walking. Show us an accessible hill or mountain and we want to go up it.
We like watching birds but are not twitchers. To be honest Lawson is more into bird spotting than me but what I find amazing

is the diversity of birdlife, and the fact birds of all sizes continue to live side by side with us humans. So, in the course of our explorations
we may make a detour to the local dump because more often than not it will be one of the best places to see birds.
We are sure New Zealand will not disappoint us when it comes to birds but what about other wildlife and natural wonders?
Will we encounter anything to beat the sight of polar bears on sea ice at the North Pole?
And what will we think of the house at Paraparaumu that Ron and Vivien have built? All will be revealed.......

Disaster number 5

Guess who?

Last Wednesday 5 February, when returning to Shearwater Lodge in the Kaikoura mountains, after the scree walking, and when we were almost in sight of the lodge, I stepped on some uneven ground and sat down heavily. By the following morning my left knee was very swollen but I managed to walk back down the mountain.

When the knee was still swollen on Saturday morning, and I was having trouble straightening my leg, we knew that we would have to pay a second visit to the 24 hour surgery in Christchurch (Lawson had gone there with his toothache) before we could move on.

The surgery was very efficient and I was soon out again - having been seen by a doctor twice and had Xrays and blood tests - wearing the Tubigrip stocking and with anti-inflammatory tablets.

An appointment was also made for me to see a specialist the following Monday, and I wouldn't even have to go to the hospital to see him; he would come to the surgery to see me!

Anyway I'm pleased to say that my knee is almost back to normal now (Monday evening 10 February here). I have to go on wearing the Tubigrip for a while (won't do much for my suntan) but I'm running about again.

The total cost of the treatment was £75; not bad, I thought, for treatment to a non resident.
