ABOUT US

ABOUT US
We are from Cornwall, England.
We love to travel and to explore places in a campervan. We find
wide open spaces exhilarating
and do lots of walking. Show us an accessible hill or mountain and we want to go up it.
We like watching birds but are not twitchers. To be honest Lawson is more into bird spotting than me but what I find amazing

is the diversity of birdlife, and the fact birds of all sizes continue to live side by side with us humans. So, in the course of our explorations
we may make a detour to the local dump because more often than not it will be one of the best places to see birds.
We are sure New Zealand will not disappoint us when it comes to birds but what about other wildlife and natural wonders?
Will we encounter anything to beat the sight of polar bears on sea ice at the North Pole?
And what will we think of the house at Paraparaumu that Ron and Vivien have built? All will be revealed.......

Te Anau

Although it was late in the evening by the time we'd finished the Gertrude's Saddle walk, we decided to press on back down the long Milford Road to the town of Te Anau for the night. This is another town which exists only because of the tourist traffic to Milford Sound, and looks as if everything in it was built last month.
After all the drama of the climb up and down the mountain it was an anti-climax to be back in the orderly campsite with its regimented plots and mown grass, then (without bothering to shower first because we were too tired and hungry) to cross the main road to walk into town along  neat tarmac roads with streetlights and neon lit shopfronts.
There were two Chinese restaurants in one road. We chose the one that was full of Chinese families, thinking that this had to be a good sign. It was, because the food was good, although more hot and spicy than we were used to; obviously Chinese food NZ style.
Because everyone in the place was eating with chopsticks I made sure first that a knife and fork could be provided for me. That's something that's been on my list of skills to be learnt for some time; using chopsticks. I must get around to it!
While sitting at the table waiting for the food to arrive I noticed the name of the road we were in;  it was Wong Way.
